Did you know?

All those aching backs! In a survey done by the National Institutes of Health, 27 percent of Americans said low back pain was their most common type of pain, followed by headaches or migraines (15 percent). More than 26 million Americans aged 20 to 64 suffer from back pain, and each year we spend at least $50 billion on neck and back pain relief.

Neck and Back Problems?

Most patients who have experienced ongoing back problems don’t have to be told that there is a huge,  gaping hole in effective health care options for treatment of back and neck pain. Unfortunately, most conventional treatment practices simply do not work very well.

A study completed in 2003 concluded: “Certainly, the historical lack of success of the rehabilitation and medical professions in treating lower back pain should serve as sufficient motivation to look to more evidence-based models…” We have done just that. Our revolutionary solution to spinal rehabilitation is used exclusively at Progressive Physical Therapy.

More Effective Treatment for Neck and Back Pain

At Progressive Physical Therapy, we take a different approach to your pain. We treat the source of it, not just the symptoms. Let's discuss some of the most common causes of neck and back pain.

Chronic Postural Deterioration (CPD) is a condition that results when we mold to our sitting positions and round forward. Americans sit more than people of any other nation. Sitting at computers, in cars and in front of the television puts twice as much pressure on our spines as standing. Our bodies gradually creep into a posture that not only makes us look older, but also creates the progressive deterioration of spinal components, leading to neck and back pain.

When not treated, localized spinal instabilities, which cause neck and back pain, can lead to chronic postural deterioration (CPD), as mentioned above.

Whiplash is a traumatic condition that can resemble the problems caused by CPD. Supporting ligaments and muscles of the neck are compromised, leading to pain and instability of the spine as well as the deterioration of spinal components.

Our evidence-based and effective plans work to strengthen the muscles that help support the spine to decrease pain and improve function. Our Neck and Back Rehabilitation Program can reduce and even reverse CPD, whiplash and other similar conditions.

Sciatica is often caused by a herniated or bulged disc in the lower back. Your spine is made up of vertebrae (bones) separated by discs (connective tissue). When a disc gets injured or overused, its center can push out from the hard outer ring. This protrusion puts pressure on the surrounding nerves and causes pain. The pain is often felt from the lower back all the way down to the side or back of the legs and feet. This sciatic nerve is the longest in the body and can produce symptoms such as sharp pain, numbness and tingling. Other conditions that affect the sciatic nerve are radiculopathy, facet joint dysfunction, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, bone spurs and spinal stenosis.
